Parks & Rec announces registrations for camps

(6/5/2006) The City of New Haven Parks & Recreation Dept. announces the following:

REGISTER FOR NEW HAVEN PARKS & RECREATION MIDNIGHT BASKETBALL LEAGUE

The City of New Haven Parks & Recreation Dept. is holding registration for boys and girls between ages 10-14 to play in its annual Midnight Basketball League on Saturday’s during the summer.

Registration will be held at these locations:

Wexler/Grant Community School, 55 Foote Street

Tuesday, June 6th, from 6:00pm-7:30pm.

John Martinez School, 100 James Street

Roberto Clemente, 360 Columbus Ave.

Wednesday, June 7th from 6:00pm-7:30pm

Each child must bring a copy of their birth certificate.

League play begins Saturday, July 1st at the Ralph Walker Rink located at 1080 State Street, New Haven, CT. Contact: Al Lucas, League Commissioner, 946-8371

REGISTER FOR COLLEGE WOMEN’S SUMMER BASKETBALL LEAGUE

NEW HAVEN- The City of New Haven Parks & Recreation Dept. still has openings for it College Women’s Summer Basketball League.

League play will begin on Monday, June 26, 2006 at the Ralph Walker Rink located at 1080 State Street, New Haven, CT.

Team registration cost is: $450.00 which includes 12 team shirts.

COLLEGE COACHES GIRLS BASKETBALL CAMP

The New Haven Department of Parks Recreation and Trees is sponsoring a “College Coaches Girls Basketball Camp “, for girls in Middle School & High School.

The camp is operated by college coaches from these respected institutions:

Bill Mc McBride, Head Coach Amherst College & Camp Director

Darren Bennett, Head Coach – Skidmore College

Rene Bostic, Head Coach – Robert Morris College

Helen Williams, Head Coach – Merrimack College and others.

Camp will begin on August 7 – 10 from 8:30 am – 3:00pm at the New Haven Athletic Center located at 500 Sherman Parkway, New Haven, CT

Cost for camp is: $120.00

Each camper will receive a Nike Camp shirt and a Camp Basketball

BOYS BASKETBALL CAMP

The New Haven Department of Parks Recreation and Trees and Future Stars Sports Academy is sponsoring a “Boys Basketball Camp “, for boys between the ages of 7 and 12 years.

The camp is operated by Jim Olayos, Camp Director & John Migliaro, site coordinator. This program is nationally recognized by the NBA & WNBA Association.

This camp is to help young players develop techniques and skills. Educational disciplines, “Lessons of Life Program “are also included.

Camp will begin on: July 10 – July 14. (8:30am – 3:00pm)

This event will take place at the New Haven Athletic Center located at,

500 Sherman Parkway, New Haven, CT

Camp cost is: $120.00 per week.

Each camper will receive their own ball and a camp shirt.

CHEERLEADING CAMP

The New Haven Department of Parks Recreation and Trees and Future Stars Sports Academy is sponsoring a “Cheerleading Camp “, for girls between the ages of 6 and 12 years.

The camp is operated by Jim Olayos, USA Today ’s “Most Caring Coach”, Kate Guedes - Cheerleading Instructor, Meghan Gleason – Cheerleading Instructor & Melissa Marcantonio – Cheerleading Instructor

This camp is to help young girls develop fundamental skills. Educational disciplines, “Lessons of Life Program “are also included.

Camp will begin on: July 17 – July 21. (9:00am – 12:00 noon)

This event will take place at the New Haven Athletic Center located at,

500 Sherman Parkway, New Haven, CT

Camp cost is: $125.00 per week.

Each camper will receive a camp T-shirt and cheerleading giveaways.

Volleyball camp

The New Haven Department of Parks Recreation and Trees is sponsoring a “Volleyball Camp “, for middle school & high school boys and girls.

The camp is operated by Makeba Davis, former coach of North Branford HS and Quinnipiac University and others.

Ideal for volleyball athletes who want to develop better skills and knowledge of the game.

Camp will begin on July 24 – 27.

* Session one is general skills development (8:30am – noon)

* Session two is individual skills and team concept. (1:00pm – 4:00pm)

All events will take place at the New Haven Athletic Center located at ,

500 Sherman Parkway, New Haven, CT

Camp cost is: $125.00 for one session or $225 for both sessions.

Each camper will receive a camp shirt and a camp volleyball

Track and field camp

The New Haven Department of Parks Recreation and Trees is sponsoring a “Track & Field Camp “, for middle school & high school boys and girls.

The camp is operated by Gary Moore, head coach Hillhouse High School and a host others high school and college coaches.

Ideal for volleyball athletes who want to develop better skills and knowledge of the game.

Camp will begin on: June 26th – 29th . (Hurdles, Discus & High Jump) 10:00am-2:00pm

July 3rd, 5th, 6th, 7th. (Long Jump, Shot Put & Speed Development) 10:00am – 2:00pm

All events will take place at the New Haven Athletic Center located at,

500 Sherman Parkway, New Haven, CT

Camp cost is: $110.00 per week.

Each camper will receive a camp shirt.
